Who thought this was a good idea???

We not only made it to France but even got out of Calais! P&O let us on an earlier crossing and we headed for Bolloungue. Slept at a service station just outside the town. In the morning the car just started and we got to a hypermarket before she died. We had one problem that we knew about which was fuel… So in a carpark we spent 6 hrs removing the fuel system and cleaning it! The tank is nice and clean now (we used mineral water and some deterrgent!) After that she ran fine for a fuel miles but died again. This time we realised the alternator is dodgy and not able to power the Fuel Injection system hence the poor running. We got to a small garage who are currently repairing it!

Dan and Sam have now arrived after blowing their gearbox in Cardiff, they worked all night to fix it and are now in our hotel room recovering after 28 hrs non stop fixing and driving. If the car works we`re off tonight to get some distance between us and Northern France!

Good fun though!

Well everything was going well until we tried to use the power of the engine to overtake. It hesitates and dosent really give you any power. We ran some fuel cleaner through and things got better. At full chat it pulls like a rocket! However then the problem comes back. We suspect there is crap/rust in the tank and it blocks things up.

Luckily being a 6 cylinder engine we can cruise on the motorway under 2500 rpm, she seems to run fine there. We are going to put in another just cheap filter and carry spares. Also run more injector and fuel system cleaners through and if we have real problems the tank will have to be taken out and flushed out and the fuel line purged and the injectors blown through. However we probably have more chance of that all happening with the RAC once we get underway!

We packed tonight and the car is heavily laden. The boot is huge which is good as we have lots of stuff. I can’t believe how much stuff we are going to leave behind once we get there. Oh well!

We have also fitted two of our spare wheels onto the boot lid freeing up space and making it look even more like a rally car!

We leave tomorrow at about midday!
